In fact, it was July of 2003 when my website started. Didn't know a hill of beans about websites. My life was living paycheck to paycheck. My website was built from my own experience, or my type of business. My writing was different from many other websites. My style is more upfront and personal, based on experiences in my niche. It was more of a guide than anything. It didn't occur to me to try sales until people began asking me "why don't you sell widgets?" A few things I've learned: Believe in content. My articles kept increasing and would complain and moan like others do, everyday, in the webmaster forums. It was very frustrating. Then, my link building began and it all came together. It's amazing how well it worked. It didn't seem possible to top X amount of visitors in one week. However, now it seems like a trifle. Love what you do. If it's more like a job, you find yourself not wanting to work on the website(s). This won't get you far. Sure, we all get into writing blocks but if it's boring you, find another occupation. Take it slow. Eventually, you get into a bunch of trouble if you go head first. |
